Honestly, it's probably not even about the tech. It's about securing the contract for 'development' and 'consulting'. The actual product is secondary.

As a dev, this kinda thing drives me insane. Imagine being on that team, knowing full well it's garbage, but management insists on 'security through obscurity' and 'release it anyway'.
